I would like to acknowledge the Yaggara and the Turrbal people, Traditional Custodians of this land we are meeting on and pay my respects to all Elders past, present and emerging as they hold the memories, traditions and culture of this land. The foundations laid by these ancestors gives strength, inspiration, and courage to current and future generations both First Nations and non-First nations people toward creating a better Queensland.
I acknowledge colonial structures and policies remain in place today and recognise the ongoing struggles of First Nations people in dismantling those structures. The struggle to seek justice, to remember and address this nations past is ongoing and is a necessary requirement for individual and collective healing.
I also recognise the societal structures and socialisation processes that constrain and suppress the mental wellbeing of all the LGBTIQ+SB community, and hope for the healing of all people by becoming a collective 'social normal' -with no segregation or hierarchies needed- for true equality and absence of cruelty, false superiority, and judgement.
LGBTIQ+SB folk are always welcome here and are accepted just as you are.
in solidarity,
Michelle
